I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change has been running so long that folks who saw this show when it opened and enjoyed its comedic take on the awkwardness of dating can now relate to the parts that spoof "married with kids." Having recently broken records for Denver's longest running theatrical performance—over four years—the show is now finally set to close on August 29th.

Revisiting the production for the first time since it opened, and having forgotten most of the punchlines, I was struck by the freshness of the material, particularly considering that two of the four principals have been with the show for the whole run. But if anything, Jordan Leigh and Gina Schuh-Turner are even funnier and more poignant than they were at the start. And the two "newcomers" on the set, Scott Foster and Shannan Steele, are as talented as the folks they replaced (Mark Devine and Elizabeth Rose).

The book, music, and lyrics consist of 22 comedic sketches punctuated by a strong score and an unending parade of every dating situation, marital milestone, and personality archetype you can think of, and then some. The actors trade off playing roles that range in age from twentysomething to geriatric, and in the process seamlessly morph their faces and physiques to match.
